When to go
- Siargao sits on the Philippine Sea side of the country, and rain patterns vary by location; some areas get rain year-round. Wikipedia
- Most typhoons hit between July and November, but they can happen any time. Boats and flights are cancelled in bad weather, so leave buffer days and follow PAGASA. State Dept
- Surf conditions vary through the year; check a surf forecast for your dates if surfing is the goal.
Getting there from the US
- From the US, fly into Manila (NAIA) or Mactan–Cebu (CEB). Philippine Airlines is the flag carrier; check PAL for current US routes. Wikipedia: Mactan–Cebu airport
- Sayak Airport (Siargao Airport) in Del Carmen is the island's main airport, with domestic flights. Check Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines/PAL Express for current routes from Manila and Cebu. Wikipedia: Sayak Airport · Cebu Pacific · PAL
Where to stay
- General Luna: the main tourist town, near Cloud 9 and the departure point for island tours. Wikipedia: General Luna
- Pilar and the north: quieter, near Magpupungko Rock Pools. Wikipedia: Siargao
- Del Carmen: near the airport and mangrove areas; farther from General Luna's cafes and surf breaks.
Top things to do
- Watch or surf Cloud 9, a right-breaking reef wave reached by a long pier; it gets crowded and is for experienced surfers. Beginners should take a lesson at a gentler break. Wikipedia: Siargao
- Island-hopping from General Luna to Guyam Island, Naked (Pansukian) Island sandbar and Daku Island. Wikipedia · Klook: Siargao tri-island tours
- Magpupungko Rock Pools in Pilar (best at low tide).
- Sugba Lagoon in Del Carmen; it has been closed for rehabilitation in the past, so check its status locally.

Rough budget
- We don't list hotel or flight prices because they change constantly. Price your trip with live searches, and treat any figures here as approximate.
- Tri-island tours listed on Klook were roughly US$25–35 per person when we checked in Oct 2026 (approximate).
- ATMs take most US debit cards, but fees can exceed $5 per withdrawal and limits can be low; smaller shops and taxis usually want cash. Carry pesos before heading to islands. State Dept
Tips
- SIM cards must be registered, so the State Dept suggests a travel eSIM before you leave the US. State Dept · eSIM option: Airalo Philippines eSIM
- Renting a scooter is common, but drive carefully and make sure your travel insurance covers it.
- The State Dept rates the Philippines Advisory Level 2 with do-not-travel areas elsewhere in Mindanao (Sulu Archipelago, Marawi City); Siargao is not one of them, but read the advisory before you go. State Dept
- Bring enough cash; ATMs can run low on islands.
